Booting from USB (if your hardware supports it) has the advantage of speeding things up.
You do not have to buy a DVD and you can re-use the same USB over and over again for other installations.

Whether I am installing

  • Mac Osx
  • Windows
  • Linux

you can use the same software namely UNetbootin.

In the article about rescuing my computer we used Unetbootin to burn a cd-rom to scan for viruses.

Via Unetbootin you can install a diversity of tools and distributions

  • Ubuntu
  • Linux Mint
  • Parted Magic
  • SystemRescueCD
  • F-Secure Rescue CD
  • NTPasswd
  • Kasperky rescue CD

I scroll over all the options in the Linux movie.

Windows

Bitdefender Rescue disk will be installed.

Linux

Kaspersky Rescue disk will be installed

Mac Osx

But there are other ways to make a USB bootable like we discussed in the article about Mavericks or the article of El Capitan.
Personally I tend to use these options for Mac Osx.
