These explanations are not solely for ARCHLabs. They are for all openbox based distro’s.

In  this installation article we have explained you where to download the iso of ARCHLabs, how to install ARCHLabs and how to customize ARCHLabs. We went into detail about the essential parts of openbox like tint2, the conky and the openbox menu. We made also a tutorial how to change the look of ARCHLabs and so on.

This article will explain where and how to change or add custom keyboard shortcuts.

CTRL + H will show you the ~/.config/openbox folder. This folder is where all the core files are for openbox.

You can check the current keyboard shortcuts via the menu.

rc.xml is a file that contains (amongst other things) your custom keyboard shortcuts and can be edited either

  • manually with geany or any text-editor or
  • obkey

Obkey is the program we need to change it graphically or you can do edit the rc.xml file and change it in there.

We change one of  the keyboard shortcut as an example.

We can activate obkey with my custom keyboard shortcut : CTRL + ALT + K

We make a new shortcut for the application terminix and show you all the steps you should take.

If you make two shortcuts with the same keyboard shortcut they will start both.

Afterwards we go to the rc.xml  and show you how to edit this file.

Copy/paste in order to add new keyboard shortcuts.

GREAT TIP : check out the moving around, tiling or maximizing  of windows.
